Robert “Cary” McNair Jr. sues the NFL, claiming interference in his business roles and seeking over $100 million in damages.

HOUSTON — A member of the McNair family has filed a lawsuit against the NFL, claiming the league interfered in his business and leadership roles.

The Buzbee Law Firm announced Saturday it has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Robert “Cary” McNair Jr. in the New York Supreme Court, seeking more than $100 million in damages.

According to the filing, McNair claims the NFL and Houston Texans owner’s representative, Cal McNair, conspired to push him out of two positions: his seat on the trust board that owns the Texans and his role as CEO of McNair Interests, the family’s billion-dollar investment company.

Attorney Tony Buzbee said McNair faced backlash after repeatedly raising concerns about what the lawsuit describes as “serious, high-profile scandals” involving the Texans.

“We allege that Cary McNair had the courage to voice his concerns about important management issues regarding serious, high-profile scandals involving the Houston Texans,” Buzbee said in a statement. “We believe the evidence will be clear and overwhelming that the NFL intervened in the McNair family business to remove Cary McNair from his position as CEO, in an effort to silence Cary McNair. He won’t be silenced.”

The lawsuit, which seeks damages under Texas law for tortious interference with contract, comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the Texans following multiple controversies in recent years.

KHOU 11 has reached out to the Texans for comment. We are waiting to hear back.
