(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — “We find things that inspire us,” said Tim Gillengerten, the owner and creative director of Transit Tees.

“We’re in Wicker Park, at our flagship store and everything you see in the store we actually drew in our design studio. So we’re inspired by the city of Chicago. I love the city.”

Transit Tees has stores on North Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park and on Clark Street in Andersonville.

They have street signs, board games based on the L line, blankets with a map of Chicago neighborhoods, mugs, hats, sweaters, Chicago umbrellas, refrigerator magnets.

They also have maybe the most Chicago thing of all.

“This year, we launched the old style Tavern Light Box and that was a great success,” Gillengerten said.

“They’re amazing on all the corner taverns and they just add all that character and that local bar vibe.”

A stroll through Transit Tees is like a walk through all 77 Chicago, and you’ll wish you had a bag big enough to take it all home.

“We design everything in our studio. So all the artwork is created by a team of three art directors.

“We have four printing presses. We also have button makers, vinyl cutters. We’ll make things right at the counter.”

You’ll find Linda McGuire behind the counter at the Wicker Park Transit Tees.

“The people that come in here and shop are just perfect. There’s always something for somebody.”
