A recent Pew Research study shows Donald Trump increased his backing among religious voters in 2024, winning 62 per cent of Protestants and 55 per cent of Catholics, up from 2020.
He made significant gains with minority Protestants, including Hispanic and Asian groups, securing 70 per cent of their vote.
John Green, emeritus director of the Bliss Institute of Applied Politics, said: “Donald Trump was able to expand his coalition.
He maintained his religious supporters among white Christians but then reached out particularly to the Hispanic and minority communities to really pick up some people.”
Religious voters attending services monthly favored Trump nearly 2-to-1. Green added: “Voting behavior is communal. If the people I hang out with vote, I’m more likely to vote.”
Gabriel Salguero, president of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition, noted Latino evangelicals’ support stems from multiple issues, saying: “It’s not one issue because Latino evangelicals are not one-issue voters… from the economy to social issues around pro-life, around biblical understandings of marriage…
“Plus, the Trump administration was intentional in outreach to Latino evangelicals by going to their churches… yielded an impact.”
