While these days the office for many in the Bay Area is primarily a mix of home and workplace, the region still boasts some of the most lively and imaginative spaces to spend a workday.
Resume.io polled roughly 3,000 workers about their ideal workplace and where they would most love to work from. The focus was not on salary, but on the actual physical space and surroundings. Top vote-getters spanned from a dramatic, glassy high-rise in midtown Manhattan at Bloomberg Headquarters to a biosphere of plants and water features in Seattle at the Amazon Spheres.
Not surprisingly, two visionary Bay Area cinematic companies made the list of dream workplaces: Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville (No. 12) and Lucasfilm HQ in San Francisco (No. 31).
Pixar gets high marks because the studio is built around a central atrium that brings people together, along with other spaces—such as screening rooms and gardens—that invite creativity and collaboration.
Lucasfilm is housed in the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio. The production space sits in the middle of landscaped grounds, courtyards, and public art set against the cinematic backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Here’s the complete list of top workspaces, according to the poll:
