SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) hosted an event Sunday to promote sober driving and let attendees see the real risks of driving while intoxicated.

The “Drive Sober: No Regrets” interactive exhibit, was open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at La Canterra Mall, and showcased a number of emotional testimonies and interactive “games” to show the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The event featured a traveling carnival trailer, where guests could watch the heartwrenching testimony from the survivors of drunk driving crashes.

Guests could also experience the dangers of driving under the influence in a drunk driving simulator and playing either basketball or cornhole while wearing goggles that simulate being impaired.

“People who are gathering for Fourth of July festivities, we want you to have an option to make a plan for Uber or Lyft, or a designated driver, before you start drinking,” said TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist Norma Cardona Price .”We don’t want people drinking and driving.”

The initiative aims to show San Antonians the dangers of drunk driving and help local drivers get home safely.
