UC Davis faces Mercer in the FCS Kickoff Classic in a battle of two top-15 teams.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Game was declared a no contest after the game was delayed by lighting.
UC Davis football will be in the national spotlight Saturday afternoon when the Aggies play against the Mercer University Bears in Montgomery, Alabama.
The game is part of the FCS Kickoff Classic and is a matchup between two top-15 teams in the FCS.
UC Davis enters the game ranked No. 8 in the FCS poll, while Mercer sits at No. 11.
The Aggies are coming off a successful 11-3 season, losing to South Dakota in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoff.
This season, the team boasts five Preseason All-Americans and aims to advance even further in the playoff bracket. However, they will have to overcome three road games to start the season, which is the first time they will have to do so since 2006, according to the school.
Last year’s Mercer team very much mirrored UCD’s as they also went 11-3 and lost in the FCS quarterfinals.
