JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of Akron men’s track and field freshman Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. (June 11-14) in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase to headline the performances of the Zips in third-day competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Friday (May 30).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Kipchirchir advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. (June 11-14) for the first time earning the 12th and final qualifying berth crossing the line in 8:42.88. The steeplechase will take place at 7:38 p.m. ET on Wednesday (June 11).
• Senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) narrowly missed qualifying in the women’s pole vault recording a qualifying clearance of 12-11 (3.94m).
• Redshirt junior Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) garnered a mark of 176-5 (53.78m) in qualifying for the men’s discus.
• Sophomore Mason Birch (Strongsville, Ohio) cleared 6-8.75 (2.05m) in the men’s high jump.
 
UP NEXT:
Akron concludes competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday (May 31).

High Jump: Mason Birch (40th-6-8.75/2.05m); Discus: Owen Wendl (20th-176-5/53.78m); 3,000-Meter Steeplechase: Bismack Kipchirchir (12th-8:42.88q)

Pole Vault: Cassidy Allen (17th-12-11/3.94m)
 
THURSDAY WOMEN’S FINAL RESULTS:
Hammer: Gabrielle Griffiths (39th-177-10/54.21m)
 
THURSDAY WOMEN’S PRELIMINARY RESULTS:
100-Meter Hurdles: Rukia Omulisia (23rd-13.30q); 200 Meters: Joy Nwokike (31st-23.79); 400 Meters: Joy Nwokike (17th-52.39q*)
 
WEDNESDAY MEN’S FINAL RESULTS:
Hammer: Lane Graham (27th-203-1/61.91m), Christopher Vance (34th-199-10/60.92m); Pole Vault: Hunter Garretson (17-5.75/5.33mq), Kaden Rambatt (32nd-16-6/5.03m), Isaac Baltic (NH); Shot Put: Owen Wendl (35th-57-2.75/17.44m), Josiah Cox (40th-54-10.75/16.73m)
