HOUSTON – Houston sophomore Antrea Mita was named the Big 12 Men’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Mita, who won the men’s high jump at Texas Relays on Saturday, cleared an outdoor personal best of 2.21m. He ranks first in the conference this season and is tied for second in the nation.
This marks Houston’s first outdoor conference weekly award this season and the third all-time Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of the Week accolade. Former Cougar De’Vion Wilson earned the first weekly award in program history last season (May 1, 2024) while graduate KeAyla Dove earned the first indoor honor this season (Feb. 19, 2025).
During the indoor season, the sophomore placed eighth at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship for First Team All-America honors. Mita also won the 2025 Big 12 Indoor Championship high jump title.

TOM TELLEZ STATUE UNVEILING AND TRIBUTE DINNER
Former Houston Track & Field Coach Tom Tellez will be honored with a statue and garden located at the Carl Lewis International Complex. Tellez coached the Cougars from 1976 until his retirement in 1998.
The statue will be unveiled at 6:15 p.m., Friday, with a dinner to follow from 6:30-9 p.m., in the Great Hall located inside the Athletics/Alumni Center. Individual tickets start at $50 or two tickets can be purchased for $90 by clicking here.
