Team USA earned a commanding and much needed 5-0 win over France in the tournament’s battle of red, white and bleu. The Americans improved to 2-0-1-1 and added three points to their tournament total to maintain their third-place tie with Latvia.
The United States got off to a blistering start, piling on all but one of its five goals in the first period of action on Thursday. Matt Boldy led with two goals and an assist for the USA, and they outshot their European opponents by a staggering 54-10.
Poland is coming off a 4-0 pounding by Slovakia, and has little to show for its performance at Worlds so far, with a 0-0-1-3 record, and rapidly diminishing chances in the group.
The IIHF World Championship began its preliminary round on Friday, May 10, and it continues through Tuesday, May 21. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, semifinals on Saturday, May 25, and gold and bronze medal games on Sunday, May 26.
