BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort is excited to share that Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Student Success, Shawn Becker, has been named to the NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant Selection Committee. His term began in month and will continue through August 31, 2030. Becker’s appointment is a benchmark in USCB’s presence at the national level and helps strengthen the university’s commitment to fostering excellence in coaching and athletics. His involvement in this selection process will help ensure that institutions across Division II continue to have access to resources that build their athletic programs and bolster their campus’ student-athlete experience.

As an administrator, this is Becker’s first time serving on a national level committee. During his previous time as a coach, Becker did serve as a member of the Division II National Coaches Connection program for Division II tennis (2017-2019). With his appointment to this committee, this provides an example of the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s leadership being recognized at the highest levels of collegiate athletics after successfully completing the NCAA DII membership process and beginning active membership in the division on September 1st.

The NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant is a valuable resource that has helped institutions strengthen their coaching staffs and enhance opportunities for professional development. After years of advocating for the inclusion of coaches from underrepresented groups in the collegiate coaching ranks and seeing the influence of those coaches on their campus communities, Becker appreciates how impactful this funding can be in shaping the future of athletic programs and expanding the reach of athletic departments to connection with their student-athletes.

“I am honored to be given this opportunity to serve on this committee and to play a role in supporting the advancement of coaching in Division II,” said Becker. “To be part of the process to help institutions create the chance for underrepresented coaches to mentor, teach, support, and guide their student-athletes within their university mission statements matches my previous work in promoting inclusion and gender equity in sports. Anyone that knows my body of work, knows this type of advocacy has long been part of my purpose. I look forward to participating in these evaluations while leveraging honesty, fairness, and integrity in every selection.”

This appointment helps cap off a semester of transformation experiences for USCB Athletics. Please stay tuned for a recap on how Sand Shark student-athletes, administrators and campus representatives have been actively able to benefit from the benefits of becoming full NCAA Division II members.
