Hilton for Business benefits and booking termsQuick Thoughts

In early-2024, Hilton launched Hilton for Business, which provided an opportunity for small and medium-sized businesses to get additional rewards via employees stays. In addition to both the employee and the business earning Hilton Honors points, the program offers a special Hilton for Business rate which is sometimes better than the regular Hilton Honors rate.

Then, at the end of 2024, Hilton credits were added to the American Express Business Platinum card, which provided a $50 credit each calendar quarter when using an enrolled card at a Hilton property. However, as part of the enrollment process for these credits, the cardholder is automatically signed-up for Hilton for Business, regardless of whether the linked Hilton Honors account is attached to an actual business. As a result, there’s A LOT more folks that are now Hilton for Business members.

I knew that using the flexible Hilton for Business rate could provide a discount, but until recently, I never realized that it also significantly improves the cancellation terms for most properties. In addition, hotels that normally charge a one-night deposit at the time of booking waive that requirement when using the business rate.

Hilton for Business benefits and booking terms

As a reminder, benefits of the Hilton for Business program include:

    • Exclusive discounted rate
    • 7,500 bonus points after your company’s first stay on the Hilton for Business rate
    • 5,000 bonus points for every 10 nights stayed on the Hilton for Business rate
    • Earn bonus points and/or elite night credits with various time-limited promotions

In addition, what I’ve found is that, for most properties, the flexible Hilton for Business rate includes:

    • A one-day cancellation policy instead of the three days that’s usually found when using the Hilton Honors rate
    • A waiver of the requirement to prepay a one-night deposit at those properties that charge it.

Let’s look at a couple of examples.

Many Hilton properties in Las Vegas notoriously charge a one-night deposit to your credit card at the time of booking, like we see at Virgin Hotels here (below is the flexible Hilton Honors rate):

However, by switching the reservation to business travel, we see not only a slightly cheaper rate, but also a one-day cancellation policy. The booking also becomes “Book Now, Pay Later:”

Another well-known property that charges a one-night deposit is the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. The cash rates here often start at ~$700-800/night, which is a chunk of change to pay in advance (again, this is the flexible Hilton Honors rate):

Again, changing the reservation to the flexible business rate not only saves ~5%, it also removes the deposit guarantee and changes the cancellation terms to one-day:

Quick Thoughts

I might be the last person on earth to realize that the Hilton for Business rate improved the booking terms so much, although it makes sense because the same thing happens with many corporate rates as well. Most properties that I saw still offered the same non-refundable and semi-flex options as the regular Hilton Honors rate, but the primary flexible rate offered much more flexibility.

It’s worth noting that sometimes folks actually want those one-night deposits charged to a card, in order to make sure they trigger a credit in a given quarter (or, in the case of the Hilton Aspire, semi-annually). In those cases, using the normal, flexible Hilton Honors rate is preferable.

It’s worth noting that I didn’t see any difference in award booking terms between personal and business at the properties that I looked at, so it seems like it applies to cash rates only. However, for folks that are booking those paid rates, it makes Hilton for Business much more appealing.
