Together Podemos is a nonprofit that serves Hispanic residents
Retired pediatrician Tanya H. Vargas will speak on Together Podemos at the Wednesday, April 23, meeting of Altrusa International of Oak Ridge at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 215 S. Illinois Ave.
Together Podemos is “a nonprofit organization that serves Oak Ridge, Anderson County and surrounding counties with the mission to empower and support our Hispanic neighbors through education, workshops and resource connections. They strive to create a space where Hispanic families feel welcome, valued, respected and included while preserving our Hispanic heritage,” stated the Altrusa news release.
Vargas originally came to Oak Ridge in 1990, left in 2015, and came back home to Oak Ridge after retiring in 2022. One of her values is community service. She was involved in the early stages of the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge.
After returning to Oak Ridge, she said in the release, she wanted to serve her community in a different way, and one that included Hispanic families like hers. When Olivia Cox, the executive director of Together Podemos, approached her to be part of this organization, she thought it was a unique opportunity to become involved in the Hispanic community, to have an impact on the lives of Hispanic children and their families, and to also contribute to preserving her heritage.
