The Denver Broncos have released an updated depth chart ahead of their game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8.
Of note, linebacker Dre Greenlaw is listed as a starter with Justin Strnad as his backup (but Greenlaw is set to serve a one-game suspension this week). On offense, Alex Palczewski is officially listed as the new left guard with Calvin Throckmorton the backup behind him. New arrival J.T. Gray is listed as a third-choice safety in the secondary, but he figures to have a key role on special teams.
With Greenlaw suspended, rookie linebacker Jordan Turner was elevated from the practice squad to the game-day roster. Turner will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.
Fans should also note that while this depth chart comes straight from the team, the Broncos still call it an “unofficial” depth chart, and it should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s roughly a reflection of how coach Sean Payton stacks up each position, but there are clearly a few exceptions.
Quarterback (3)
Bo Nix enters Year 2 looking to build on his promising rookie season.
Running back (4)
Denver also has Deuce Vaughn available on the practice squad.
Tight end/fullback (4)
Lucas Krull (foot) is currently on injured reserve. He’s eligible to return in Week 9.
Wide receiver (5)
Sutton (76) and Franklin (50) continue to lead the wide receiver snaps, but Mims (43) and Bryant (41) got plenty of action in Sunday’s comeback. Sherfield (9) remains WR5.
Offensive line (8)
- LT: Garett Bolles, Frank Crum
- LG: Alex Palczewski, Calvin Throckmorton
- C: Luke Wattenberg, Alex Forsyth
- RG: Quinn Meinerz, Alex Palczewski
- RT: Mike McGlinchey, Frank Crum
Palczewski is also listed as the backup right guard despite starting at left guard. In reality, if Denver needed another guard to step in, Throckmorton would presumably be the top backup for both spots.
Defensive line (7)
- DE: Zach Allen, Jordan Jackson
- DT: D.J. Jones, Malcolm Roach
- DE: John Franklin-Myers, Eyioma Uwazurike, Sai’vion Jones
Roach is perhaps one of the best “backup” defensive linemen in the NFL.
Outside linebacker (5)
Robinson has played in the last two games while Elliss recovers from a shoulder injury.
Inside linebacker (4)
Greenlaw jumped right into a starting role on paper, but he won’t be available this week due to suspension.
Cornerback (5)
McMillian (37) remains the nickelback with Barron (17) getting rotational snaps in the secondary.
Safety (6)
Gray probably won’t get much playing time in the secondary, but he should be involved in the kicking game.
Special teams (3)
- K: Wil Lutz
- P: Jeremy Crawshaw
- LS: Mitchell Fraboni
- KR: Marvin Mims, Jaleel McLaughlin, Tyler Badie
- PR: Marvin Mims, Riley Moss
Harvey still isn’t listed as a backup returner on the depth chart despite returning 11 kickoffs for 238 yards this season.
