Today, Roadmap Brewing Co. remains an anchor of the booming North Alamo Street bar scene, but from 2016 to 2021, it neighbored another alcohol-centered business, Artisan Distillery, which shuttered entirely in January. The defunct spirits producer has been absent from the North Alamo nightlife hub for a while, but now its vacant downtown home is being revived as a new concept.
Volcano Tacos & Mexican Food (or Volcano Mexican Food and Tacos, depending on which sign you’re reading) is a new taqueria taking over the shuttered Artisan Distillery suite next to Roadmap Brewing. It is unclear exactly when Volcano began moving into the space at 315 8th St., but a video on the business’s Facebook page shows construction as early as November 6, 2025.
The Facebook profile for Volcano also offers a few glimpses of what the restaurant will serve, and it’s no surprise that the taqueria will specialize in tacos “crafted with love, using premium ingredients and homemade salsas.” However, the page hasn’t been active since November, so MySA reached out to Volcano to no avail.
A new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation provides additional context for the project, including an $80,000 renovation scheduled to occur from July 6 to December 31. We’ll continue to keep a lookout for Volcano’s upcoming developments, as the business gets closer to joining the growing nightlife district that includes Bar House, Lucky Duck and Bentley’s Beer Garden.
Find it: 315 8th St., San Antonio, TX 78215
