SALT LAKE CITY — Walmart announced that it is the first retailer to provide refrigerated and reconstituted prescription delivery, making medications such as insulin, GLP-1s, and pediatric antibiotics available to Utah families through same-day delivery along with groceries and everyday essentials.

This expansion brings meaningful access to communities across Utah. Prescriptions arrive in insulated, light-protected packaging that maintains safe temperatures for up to three hours, preserving both quality and safety. Customers can choose Same-Day Scheduled, On-Demand, or Express delivery, apply insurance as usual, and provide a secure electronic signature upon receipt.

Walmart has already fulfilled more than 4 million pharmacy deliveries nationwide, with some orders arriving in as little as nine minutes. Refrigerated medications represent more than 30 percent of Walmart Pharmacy sales, making their inclusion in delivery a significant milestone.

The need in Utah is clear:

  • The American Diabetes Association reports that more than 194,000 adults in Utah, or about 8 percent of the population, live with diagnosed diabetes.
  • The One Utah Health Collaborative found that GLP-1 prescriptions in Utah’s commercial market more than doubled between 2019 and 2023.
  • About 31 percent of Utah adults live with obesity, according to the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, placing many residents at higher risk for diabetes and related conditions.
  • Cold and flu season typically begins in October and lasts through the spring, making at-home access to refrigerated antibiotics especially valuable for parents of sick children.

Walmart’s $4 generic prescription program is also eligible for delivery, continuing the company’s investment in affordability.

More information on the process can be found on Walmart’s Newsroom.
