Construction is in full swing at the former Boston Market location at Firecreek Crossing in Reno. What’s going in there?

Goodbye, rotisserie chicken. Hello, iced caramel macchiatos.

Construction is in full swing at the former Boston Market spot at the Firecreek Crossing shopping center in Reno, with a familiar retail tenant swooping in at the spot.

Starbucks is building a new store at 4801 Kietzke Lane. The corner spot inside the retail center has been vacant since Boston Market closed its Reno location in late 2022.

Two building permits for the Starbucks project on the site were submitted earlier this year, with a permit issued in the summer, according to city of Reno records. The project was described as a commercial remodel with site improvements.

Several green “Coming Soon” signs with a Starbucks logo were also visible on wire fences around the construction site.

The new Starbucks location is being built as the global coffee chain faces headwinds. Starbucks announced in September that it is cutting 900 non-retail positions within the company and also closing 1% of its North American locations part of its “Back to Starbucks” turnaround strategy.

While Starbucks has closed at least three locations in Reno within the last year, the company has also opened new stores, including one at the former Steak ‘n Shake location in south Reno.
