NFL Overreactions Week 17

USAT’s Prince Grimes breaks down the best games of NFL Week 17 and the unfolding playoff picture.

Sports Seriously

The Dallas Cowboys’ chase for a .500 record and the New York Giants‘ chase of the No. 1 pick come to a head when they close the season at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.

Dak Prescott is set to play in a mostly meaningless game as Dallas looks to avoid back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 2000-03 under Dave Campo. The Giants are given around a 20% chance of getting a No. 1 pick, which would be possible if they lose, the Las Vegas Raiders beat Kansas City and several other results go their way.

The line: Dallas Cowboys 28, New York Giants 24.

With a line of 3 1/2 points and an over-under of 51 1/2, the Cowboys are expected to win 28-24 or 27-24.

The Arizona Republic: Cowboys 28, Giants 17

Jeremy Cluff writes: “The Giants offense won’t be able to keep up with the Cowboys in this game in a matchup of NFC East teams that had very disappointing seasons.”

Sports Betting Dime: Cowboys 33.8, Giants 26.7

The site’s formula predicts that the Cowboys will win the NFL Week 18 game against the Giants.

ESPN: Giants have a 51.5% chance to beat Cowboys on Sunday

The site gives the Cowboys a 48.1% shot at winning the NFL Week 18 game, with the remaining percentage accounting for a tie.

Sportsbook Review: Bet the Giants with the points vs Cowboys

C Jackson Cowart writes: “The Giants already sabotaged their chances of getting the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft next year – why not score another win over their bitter rival? Both of these defenses suck and neither team has anything on the line. Take the points.”

Sportsnaut: Dallas Cowboys 35, New York Giants 31

Matt Johnson writes: “Rivalry games in Week 18 at least bring something out of both teams, even if they are eliminated from playoff contention. The last time the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants faced off, we got an entertaining Week 2 shootout that ended with a 40–37 finish and nearly 1,000 total yards of offense. While we do not anticipate quite as much offensive production in this one, given the injuries on the Cowboys’ offensive line, Dallas and New York should both be able to clear 30 points on Sunday. Ultimately, the better quarterback with the superior supporting cast comes out on top.”
