11Alive goes behind the scenes with Atlanta’s social media sensation, Hood Anchor Ye.

ATLANTA — He is quickly become an online sensation, gaining popularity by delivering raw, on-the-ground news reports across metro Atlanta. Carldez Goodley, better known as Hood Anchor Ye, has earned the trust of many in the community who rely on him to report what’s happening in their neighborhoods.

He’s often faster than traditional media outlets.

“I don’t really think I would consider myself a celebrity,” Goodley said.  “I feel like celebrities are weird. I’m just in tune with my community.  I’m just well known.”

Whether it is a police chase, a fire or a community protest, you can find him racing across Atlanta in a robe, cap and tie reporting in real time on the scene.  His wardrobe isn’t just for laughs. It’s all part of his presentation.

“I want to make it seem like I just rushed out of the house, that’s where the whole robe comes from,” he explained. “The tie came later. I thought, ‘Let me look a little professional too.’”

His style may be unconventional, but his impact is undeniable. His raw reports, often filmed on the street with just his phone, rack up millions of views. Hood Anchor Ye isn’t just watching police scanners, he said he’s connected directly with the community through text and direct messages.

However, not everyone buys into his brand of journalism. Some see it as a gimmick, but he said it’s his right to report the news just like anyone else,.

“I believe in freelance journalism. Freedom of the press. Isn’t that in the Amendment?”

Don’t call him a hero just yet. He said wants to change his community first before he can change the world.

“If I can talk to the youth and help them see the streets ain’t the way, maybe I can consider myself a hero.  But right now, I’m just playing my part in this thing we call life,” he said.
