One consequence of sudden spikes of audience growth is that some people are still finding out what PTFO actually does, three times a week, when we’re not investigating an increasingly terrifying series of billionaires.

Here, for instance, is one YouTube comment on the video above:

But what lennaretmägi maybe does not realize is that this specific episode, brought to you by PTFO correspondent Dave Fleming, is an idea we greenlit a year ago. It’s an idea that we saved. If anything: it is the opposite of disposable.

We wanted to take you on a journey to a rat laboratory, in Germany; and a hotel ballroom in Rochester; and the armpit of a fighter nicknamed “Sexual Chocolate.”

PTFO’s stated mission is to do stupid things smartly and smart things stupidly.

Both, preferably, in the same episode.

And if you want a sense of how real this collective ethos is…

My 40th birthday was yesterday.

And this clip from the thing that my crazily overworked staff colluded with my friends and family to create — without me knowing! — embodies this mission:

I feel loved.

Tickled, even.

I don’t know that there’s much else a person can ask for.

Thank you,

Pablo
