As they prepare for the coming season, it appears the Dallas Mavericks are solidifying their roster in an understandable attempt to ensure they can make another deep run into the postseason. This past season, they were they came up short in the NBA Finals. Can they go one better?

Mavs & Spencer Dinwiddie agree to a second year

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, veteran swingman Spencer Dinwiddie will be playing in Texas once again after agreeing to a one-year contract with he Dallas Mavericks. It is of course welcome news for a team that looks to build on what was a statement year. While it’s true that the Mavs were unable to get their hands on the Larry Brown trophy, losing in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics, it goes without saying that they are one of the best teams in the NBA. With Dinwiddie’s renewal, they’ve taken a step toward maintaining a team that can continue to be just that.

After two solid games for the Lakers, fans are not happy that he’s not set to feature again.

Interestingly, Charania’s comments – in real-time – on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday also suggested that the Los Angeles Lakers were also in the running for Dinwiddie’s signature. Do recall that the 31-year-old spent last season between both teams, averaging 10.5 points and 4.7 assists on 39.2% shooting in 76 games. In terms of what the Mavericks can expect from the veteran, there’s no denying that Dinwiddie is a high-impact player off the bench, and is reliable as a starter as well if circumstances call for it.

During the 2021-22 season, Mavericks fans will surely remember that he immediately got to work following his mid-season arrival from the Washington Wizards. Across 23 regular season games, Dinwiddie averaged 15.8 points and 3.9 assists on 49.8% shooting from the floor as well as a 40.4% mark from beyond the arc. As things stand, the Mavericks have now got a void to fill after seeing both Josh Green and Derrick Jones Jr. depart. To that end, expect to see Dinwiddie picking up those minutes. Ultimately, this looks like a win-win situation and with that, we expect to enjoy the show.
