Atchison, Kan.–The Statesmen women’s soccer team faded in the second half as it fell 6-0 to Benedictine in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Saturday.
WPU (1-8-1, 0-6 Heart) was outshot just 15-4 on the evening and kept the Ravens (7-3-1, 4-2-1 Heart) off the scoreboard in the first period, but the hosts pulled away with a dominant second 45 minutes.
After keeping BC scoreless on only five shots in the first half, the Statesmen finally gave up the game’s first goal at the 50:15 mark.
The home team then tacked on two more quick goals over the next seven minutes and did not slow down. Additional Benedictine scores came in the 62nd, 79th, and 86th minutes.
Alessia Piombo (Jr., Traverse City, Mich., Business Management) and Heidi Gill (Buncrana, Ireland, Undecided) both tallied two shots to guide the WPU offense, while Emma Billings (Salt Lake City, Utah, Psychology) recorded three saves as the starting goalkeeper. Adelyn Robinson (Fr., Donnellson, Iowa, General Accounting) also tallied one stop off the bench.
