The Washington Wizards are turning back to the clock to the 2000s for their City edition jerseys for the 2025-26 season.
The franchise is going with a black and gold look, matching the color scheme from its 2006-09 alternates.
Eagle-eyed fans will also point out the new look is merely a different spin on Washington’s 2021-22 City Edition design. That was at the behest of apparel provider Nike.
“Uniforms using the gold and black colorway has been a request from the fans as well as players since the City Edition concept debuted years ago, with the black city edition uniform worn in 2018 starting the conversation,” said Rebecca Winn, a senior vice president for the team’s marketing.
“When Nike directed us to ‘remix’ a former City Edition, we immediately thought of the classic Wizards uniform first worn in 2006. We think this version will look great on the team and on the court and the fans will be excited about the uniform and accompanying merchandise offerings as well.”
The Wizards will wear their City Editions in 29 games this year. The first occasion will be their Nov. 16 home matchup with the Brooklyn Nets.
