ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior attack Zoe Heffernan and senior midfielder Adele Jones each scored four goals in the Tigers 12-11 loss to Ithaca in the Liberty League opener, Saturday.

Senior midfielder Morgan Nichter scored two goals and senior attack Jenna Bovenzi had two assists.

Senior attack Milena Stephen won five draw controls. Nichter and Jones each won five draws and first year defender Melia Wittlinger caused two turnovers. Nichter, senior defender Emma Scott and senior midfielder Eliza Barton each had three ground balls. Senior goalie Ellie Ruddy tied her career high making 13 saves in net for the Tigers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Heffernan scored 50 seconds into the game to give RIT a 1-0 lead.
  • Ithaca Taya Dukes tied the game 1-1 on her goal.
  • Nichter scored before Lily Cody scored for the Bombers to tie the score, 2-2.
  • Jones scored to give RIT a 3-2 lead and Kelly Augeri scored with 7:36 remaining in the first period that tied the score 3-3.
  • Nichter scored her second goal of the quarter with 3:04 to play to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.
  • Ithaca scored back-to-back goals, taking a 5-4 lead on Anna Dahlman’s goal with 1:06 to play in the opening frame.
  • Senior midfielder Grace Validzic scored with 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter that tied the score 5-5.
  • Ithaca scored the first two goals of the second quarter, taking a 7-5 lead on Augeri’s goal with 9:43 remaining.
  • The Tigers answered with three straight goals, taking an 8-7 lead on Heffernan’s goal with 49 seconds to play in the half.
  • Cody scored a woman-up goal with 24 seconds to play to tie the score 8-8.
  • Heffernan scored a woman-up goal off an assist from Bovenzi early in the third quarter to give RIT a 9-8 lead.
  • The Bombers scored the final three goals of the third quarter, taking an 11-9 lead on Sydney Smith’s goal with 7:42 to play in the quarter.
  • Augeri scored early in the fourth quarter to increase Ithaca’s lead to 12-9.
  • Heffernan scored off an assist from Bovenzi to cut Ithaca’s lead to 12-10.
  • Jones scored back-to-back goals, tying the score at 12-12 on her goal with 6:09 to play in the game.
  • Leigh Naturale scored with 2:57 remaining to make it a 13-12 final.

GAME NOTES:

  • Ithaca outshot RIT, 35-28.
  • The Tigers won 17-of-27 draws and 18-of-21 on clears.
  • RIT went 0-for-2 on free-position attempts.
