Would Knicks Trade for Anthony Davis? NBA Insider Weighs In amid Rumors on Mavs Star

Despite a 9-6 start, the New York Knicks are committed to chasing an NBA championship this season, and one insider suggested that they could target a trade to add even more star power to their roster.

SNY’s Ian Begley reported that he’s “sure” that the Knicks “would at least check in with [the Dallas Mavericks] if/when Anthony Davis becomes available” because they “want to win a title this season.” Davis’ future in Dallas is in question amid the team’s disappointing 5-13 start that led to the firing of general manager Nico Harrison.

“If Dallas is offering Davis at a below-market cost, I’m sure the Knicks will at least give the move some thought,” Begley explained. “But this, again, is stating the obvious. The Mavs will get calls from nearly all NBA teams if/when they make Davis available.”

Davis is sidelined with a calf injury and has only played five games this season. Since being acquired by the Mavs last season as part of the franchise-altering trade that sent star guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, Davis has only played in 14 out of a possible 46 games. He missed significant time last year after suffering an adductor strain in his Dallas debut.

The Knicks have a stacked roster led by the star duo of point guard Jalen Brunson and power forward Karl-Anthony Towns. Adding Davis to the mix would surely put New York over the top as a title contender, as he’s still one of the best two-way players in the league when healthy.

Begley went on to add that the trade market “will materialize in earnest” over the next three to four weeks, so the Knicks could look to make a move soon. The trade deadline is Feb. 5, so it will be exciting to see how things play out as New York and other teams try to position themselves in the race for the NBA title.
