My overnight SAS A350-900 flight in business class from Los Angeles to Copenhagen was smooth and restful, with a remarkable consistency that I have come to expect on Scandinavian Airlines.

SAS A350-900 Business Class – First Impressions From LAX-CPH

I prefer flying nonstop from Los Angeles to Europe (versus a connection in the US Midwest or East Coat) because it provides an extra hour or two for sleep…and sleep is what I wanted to maximize on this flight.

SAS is so remarkably consistent. The seat, menu, and service flow have changed very little from when I flew SAS from LA to Stockholm nine years ago…

The seat is comfortable, bedding includes a soft pillow and duvet, though on this flight I only managed five hours of sleep….that’s because there was a strong headwind which reduced our flight time to only 9.5 hours and the initial dinner service took more than two hours to complete from takeoff.

That point would be my complaint: service was courteous, but moved slowly. I appreciate not rushing passengers or plopping down a single-tray so full you can hardly eat from it, but I think the happy medium is completing meal service within 90 minutes.

The dinner itself was very good. The menu had beef, chicken, and pasta options but SAS offers meal pre-orders and I chose fish in advance, which was a very delicious “pan-seared pink snapper with artichokes barigoule, San Marzano tomato confit and smoked eggplant puree.” The scallop ceviche appetizer was also great.

Dessert was served on a cart with fruit, cheese, and sweet options.

With only 7 hours to go when I finally laid down, I was happy to sleep for five hours.

A very large breakfast was served prior to landing. I was not hungry at all, so this meal was more for the picture than the food itself (overnight oats, meat and cheese plate, eggs and bacon, croissant). I did enjoy a very good cappuccino onboard, one of the best I’ve had on a plane in recent memory.

CONCLUSION

Ultimately, this was a satisfactory flight. It wasn’t outstanding and it wasn’t bad…it was solid and I always enjoy flying SAS. With a great lounge at LAX (and in Copenhagen) and a good seat with fast free wi-fi, I look forward to many more SAS flights as I spend down my million miles.
