Investigators believe the shooting happened during a party at an industrial storefront in the 12000 block of East 39th Avenue, Denver Police said.

DENVER — Denver Police are investigating after a party on Denver’s northeast side ended in a shooting that killed three people and injured three others.

No arrests have been made.

Police said they were called out around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to an industrial storefront area off East 39th Avenue near Peoria Street, where gunshots had been fired both inside and outside the building.

News of the mass shooting came as a shock for those who work in the area where the shooting took place.

“Yeah, it is unfortunate for the families that are going to be mourning the loss of them,” said Juan Muñoz, who works nearby.

Denver Police said when they arrived, they found a man who’d been shot multiple times.  He later died.

While officers were investigating, police said five other gunshot victims showed up at nearby hospitals.

“Two adult males died at the hospital. Three additional individuals – two adult females and an adult male suffered non-life threatening injuries. They remain hospitalized at this point, though,” said Commander Matt Clark Saturday.

Clark said this all started with a party, drawing dozens to the area.

“This party with several dozen people was occurring in one of these units,” Clark said. “We don’t know at this point what escalated in there that led to the gunshots.”

Muñoz said security camera footage from their business showed dozens of people arriving to the area just before midnight on Friday.  Just two hours later, that changed.

“About 1:30 a.m., I saw some individuals fleeing on foot by our other cameras that were trying to get away from the scene and after that, just a mass of vehicles trying to flee at the same time, different people going different directions, not knowing where they were going, shortly after police arrived,” Muñoz said.

For hours, Denver Police kept the crime scene blocked off as they worked to gather evidence, speak to witnesses and piece together what happened at this party, why and who was behind it.  According to Clark, it’s possible the shooter or shooters could be among the injured or deceased.
