BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) -Four people were killed and nine others were injured after a shooting at a nightclub in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Birmingham Police Department said officers reported to 27th Street North around 11:08 p.m. Saturday.

Officers arrived and found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds both inside and outside the nightclub.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived and pronounced a man found on the sidewalk dead. Two women found inside the nightclub were also found dead, according to authorities.

University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital staff pronounced another man dead.

According to Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald, at least nine people are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at UAB Hospital.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting, but believe at least one person fired shots from the street into the nightclub.

“Our federal partners have deployed to the scene and are assisting with the investigation,” Truman said.

No one is in custody at this time.
