Not long before the Philadelphia 76ers meet for training camp, they are loading up on non-guaranteed players to add as camp bodies for the offseason run.
After making a series of signings last week, the Sixers added another player to the mix with the signing of Dillon Jones—a free agent power forward out of Weber State in 2024.
The Sixers’ final two-way battle
While the 76ers have an open roster spot currently, that’s not the spot that their recent additions are looking to snag. Instead, it’s the third and final two-way spot, which has strategically been left open for camp.
Along with Jones, the Sixers will keep a close eye on Tacko Fall, Saint Thomas, and Jameer Nelson Jr., who are all on the same Exhibit 10 contract. The players who end up getting cut at the end of the preseason could have an opportunity to return to the Sixers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. That’s not a major change for Jones.
Dillon Jones’ journey to the 76ers
The veteran power forward entered the NBA as a first-round pick (No. 26 overall) in 2024. After getting selected by the Washington Wizards, Jones was traded twice, landing with the Oklahoma City Thunder for his debut. During OKC’s championship run in 2024-2025, Jones appeared in 54 games during the regular season. The power forward saw the court for 10.2 minutes per game. He shot 38.3% from the field, producing 2.5 points per game. In addition, he produced 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
At the start of the 2025-2026 NBA season, Jones ran with the Portland Trail Blazers’ G League affiliate. In January, the New York Knicks added Jones with a two-way contract. For the second season in a row, Jones was a part of an NBA Championship-winning team. Unlike his run with OKC, Jones didn’t have any appearances in the postseason, but he did average 5.6 minutes of playing time in seven games with the Knicks during the regular season.
That experience will go a long way, but ultimately, Jones has to win the final two-way spot in camp.
For a better idea of Jones’ potential value, you can take a look at his 46-game run during the NBA G League regular season. He’s a willing shooter from three, attempting 5.0 threes per game over the past two seasons. Jones has averaged 34.3% from three. He averaged 14.8 points over that stretch, along with coming down with 6.7 rebounds and dishing out 5.7 assists. Since the Blue Coats will take advantage of the third two-way player added, that production will be considered.
