Founded by Houston Heights native Charlie McIntyre, Different Hospitality was created to thoughtfully steward beloved neighborhood businesses while building sustainable systems that support employees, guests, and the broader community. The acquisition of Boomtown Coffee Roasters marks the company’s first step in forming a values-driven hospitality group that prioritizes people, craft, and place.
“Boomtown has built something special in Houston — not just great coffee, but meaningful spaces and a strong internal culture,” said Charlie McIntyre. “Our goal isn’t to change what makes Boomtown great, but to protect it, support it, and help it grow responsibly. Different is always better when it’s intentional.”
Boomtown Coffee Roasters will continue operating under its existing brand, leadership, and community presence. Day-to-day café operations will remain familiar to guests, while the acquisition provides additional operational support, long-term stability, and new opportunities for team growth and development.
The acquisition was facilitated by Transworld Business Advisors of South & West Texas, with President Steve Merritt supporting the transaction. Transworld guided both parties through a confidential and collaborative process designed to preserve the legacy of the business while positioning it for long-term success.
“This was a great example of a values-aligned transition,” said Steve Merritt. “Both parties were committed to protecting what made Boomtown special while ensuring the business had the structure and resources needed for its next chapter.”
Different Hospitality was formed alongside New Heights Coffee Roasters, Charlie McIntyre’s Houston Heights–based roasting company founded in 2022. Together, the brands will collaborate on shared resources, training, and systems while maintaining distinct identities and neighborhood-focused experiences.
