Caminando Juntos, a nonprofit that has served the Latino population in the Sioux Falls area for 24 years, will be discontinuing operations.

The organization was founded by the Presentation Sisters and is now an independent nonprofit group with a mission to “walk with” people on their migration journey.

“The current philanthropic, economic and political environment poses unique challenges to small not-for-profit organizations,” Caminando Juntos said in a statement. “In this environment, it is difficult to offer quality services with limited income-generating programs.”

The nonprofit will end May 31.

“The board and staff extend their sincere thanks to the many volunteers and patrons who have supported this ministry over the years. As Caminando Juntos winds down its operations, it will continue work with other organizations to advance programs aiding the Latino population,” the organization said.

“Caminando Juntos was formed by the Gospel mandate to ‘welcome the stranger.’ As one of the first ministries in the Sioux Empire established for the migrant population, it has served for three decades as a welcoming template in the region.”
