WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Sirens and Torrent have split the first two games in matchup history, with Seattle winning the first game, 2-1, at home. New York took the second, 4-3, in a Takeover Tour game at American Airlines Center in Dallas. In both games, whichever team outscored the other in the third period won the game. They’ll play in a fourth different venue to wrap up the season series on Apr. 4 at a sold-out Madison Square Garden.
This is the fourth of five Takeover Tour games for New York this season (2-0-0-1). The Sirens beat the Torrent in Dallas and defeated the Victoire in Washington D.C., before losing to the Frost in Denver. They will take on Montréal in Detroit on Saturday. It’s Seattle’s fourth and final Takeover Tour game (0-1-0-2), with losses to the Sirens and to the Goldeneyes in Denver, and a shootout win over the Sceptres in Hamilton in what remains their only victory away from Climate Pledge Arena.
New York has just four wins away from home this season, with two coming as the home team in the Takeover Tour and the others in games in which they did not concede (4-0 at Ottawa; 2-0 at Toronto). The Sirens would be the first PWHL team to not have a non-shutout win as the official road team in a season.
Sarah Fillier scored her fourth goal of the season, 17th of her career and 44th point of her career in Vancouver in her last game. Since her career started last season, her 44 points (17G, 27A) are tied with Taylor Heise for the most in the PWHL.
Jaime Bourbonnais, who leads all Sirens defenders with nine points, is one of only four players this PWHL season with three assists in a single game, and it came against Seattle on Dec. 28 in Dallas. New York rookie Maddi Wheeler scored her first career goal in that game and also produced a three-assist game in her PWHL debut on Nov. 22 in Ottawa.
Anne Cherkowski also scored her first career goal for the Sirens in the DC game, while fellow rookie Anna Bargman and veteran defender Allyson Simpson both recorded their first career multi-point games (1G, 1A) in Denver.
Clair DeGeorge will make her Sirens debut tonight, signing with the team after playing 17 games this season in Toronto. With previous experience in Minnesota and Montréal, she will become the second player in PWHL history to play for four different teams (also Emma Greco – MIN, BOS, VAN, OTT).
Three of Seattle’s last four games have been losses by at least three goals, including the Torrent’s last two games. Seattle has lost six games this season by at least three goals, the most such games by any PWHL team this season.
Alex Carpenter has scored Seattle’s only goal over its last two games and leads the team with eight this season. The Torrent alternate captain scored 11 goals last season with New York, second on the team to Fillier’s 13. She still holds the team record with 19 goals, produced in New York’s first two seasons.
Lyndie Lobdell hails from the Chicago suburb of Aurora and is one of seven PWHL players from Illinois. The Torrent defender is the only rookie on the team with points this season, with the first of her two assists earned in the Dallas Takeover Tour game against the Sirens. The fifth-round draft pick out of Penn State started playing at All Seasons Ice Arena with the Sabre boys. She won four Illinois state championships with Chicago Mission U19 and U16 teams and was All-State MVP in 2019 while playing high school hockey for the Naper Valley Warriors. She expects close to 70 friends and family members tonight.
Danielle Serdachny, who has three points (1G, 2A) and 23 shots on goal in her last five games, scored her first of a career-high three goals against the Sirens on Dec. 28 in Dallas. Natalie Snodgrass earned her first of three points this season with the primary assist.
Hannah Murphy became the first, and so far the only goaltender to record an assist this season on Dec. 28. The rookie has started both games of the season series against her former Colgate University teammate, Kayle Osborne.
Gabrielle David, who signed with the Torrent on Sunday following her SDHL season, will debut with the team tonight. She led SDE HF in scoring with 42 points in 35 games and added nine points in eight playoff games. The first two goals and three points of her PWHL career with Montréal came in three games against New York during the inaugural season.
Seattle has scored the game’s first goal just five times this season, tied with Vancouver for fewest in the PWHL, with New York only slightly ahead with seven first goals. New York (35) and Seattle (28) have both scored the fewest even strength goals of any PWHL teams.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“Another Takeover Tour, another opportunity. We’re grateful to be in a great hockey city like Chicago, playing in front of fans who continue to push this league forward. Our team’s focus is simple – eyes ahead. We’ve earned the chance to be competing for important points in the final stretch of the regular season, now it’s about how we show up, how we compete, and how we take what’s in front of us.” – Sirens Head Coach Greg Fargo
“I’m so excited to play in Chicago, home for me, in front of all my friends and family. It’s my favorite thing to share what I love to do with the people I love, and to be able to reconnect with my old teammates and coaches and their families is such a special treat. Girls hockey does so well here, and I’d love to see women’s hockey do the same and I think it will tonight. Sports fans do it differently in Chicago!” – Torrent rookie Lyndie Lobdell
WEDNESDAY’S GAME: The PWHL returns to Allstate Arena for the 13th game of the 16-game PWHL Takeover Tour™ following a thrilling 3-2 overtime win by Ottawa against Minnesota on Dec. 21. Chicago is one of five markets to host multiple Takeover Tour games this season along with Denver, Detroit, Edmonton and Halifax. Allstate Arena is one of 32 venues to host a PWHL game all-time, with the number set to increase up to 35 by season’s end. The PWHL is proud to welcome Sami Williams, an infielder for the Chicago Bandits, to perform tonight’s ceremonial puck drop. In addition to her career in professional softball, she is also a Senior Software Engineer for the Chicago Cubs and was honored with the Katy Feeney Leadership Award in December, recognizing exceptional female employees in Major League Baseball. The PWHL has partnered with local nonprofit, Girls in the Game, for tonight’s game to promote gender equity and empower the next generation of female leaders by offering access to live women’s sports experiences.
