Rebels Collect A Pair Of Wins In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV track and field wrapped up the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and the Jim Bush Legends Meet with the 4x100m Relay and 4x400m Relay collecting a pair of top-two wins, along with an individual win on the track at Drake Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

Competing in the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Friday, UNLV’s distance runners showed steady progress across the board. In the 1500m ELITE, Claire Rands led the Rebels with a time of 4:42.37, while Taryn Bailey turned in a personal-best 4:51.10. Kenley Gowdy added depth with a 4:49.24 finish. The 5,000 meters saw Alana Sangprasit clock 18:42.91, while Aine McDade posted a personal-best 18:51.15. In the field events, UNLV’s throwers made their mark early. Amaya Mitchell-Howard highlighted the hammer throw with a sixth-place finish and a personal-best mark of 55.42 meters (181 feet, 10 inches). Lauryn Williams also recorded a personal best at 48.51 meters (159-2).

At the Jim Bush Legends Meet on Saturday, the 4×100-meter relay team of Victoria Perrow, KayVeonna Jackson, AnnaKay Maitland and Mikah Scott blazed to a second-place finish in 44.00 seconds, the third-fastest time in program history. Perrow returned to the track later in the day and delivered a standout performance in the 100 meters, winning the event in 11.32 seconds. Jackson added a fifth-place finish in 11.65, giving UNLV two top-five sprinters in the final.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Jaci Wright notched a personal best of 13.67 to place fifth, while the 400 meter group saw Kaelin Gowdy (54.48) and Kaitlynn Webbe (54.88) finish sixth and seventh, respectively. UNLV saved its best for last in the 4×400-meter relay, where Kaitlynn Webbe, Kaelin Gowdy, Aly Winston and Jayda Bushay surged to a first-place finish in 3:39.11. 

Sophia Clark a seventh-place discus throw of 45.78 meters (150-2). Sangprasit and McDade returned to the track in Saturday’s 1500 meters, with Sangprasit placing seventh (4:53.26) and McDade recording another personal best at 5:08.53.

UP NEXT: UNLV will host its annual UNLV Rebel ELITE Friday, April 3 through Saturday, April 4 at the Myron Partridge Stadium/Sheila Tarr Track.
