The popular discount clothing retailer Marshalls is slated to close one of its Chicago locations next month.
A company spokesperson confirmed to NBC Chicago the store in Hyde Park, located at 5102 S. Lake Park Ave., is expected to close by May 9.
“…We are always assessing and reviewing our real estate strategies, and our decision to close this store reflects that thinking,” the spokesperson said, in part. “We are grateful for our Marshalls Associates in Hyde Park and are committed to helping them find opportunities at our other nearby stores…”
The location sits within City Hyde Park, a mixed-use development that includes apartments, a Whole Foods location, a bank, a physical therapy business and more.
Nearby Marshalls locations in the South Loop, 1101 S. Canal St., and in Archer Heights, 4130 S. Pulaski Rd., will remain open. The chain operates more than 20 locations in the Chicago area and northwest Indiana.
Marshalls is one of five U.S. brands operated by TJX Companies, which describes itself as “the leading off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. and worldwide.” Other brands include TJ Maxx and HomeGoods.
