Houston (Harris County) — A large-scale renovation project is set to transform Toyota Center, as Clutch City Sports & Entertainment advances a comprehensive modernization effort aimed at upgrading the downtown arena’s infrastructure and fan experience. The project, approved by the Harris County–Houston Sports Authority, will begin construction following the current NBA season, with completion targeted for fall 2027.
The scope of work is anchored by the addition of a nearly 20,000-square-foot atrium at the corner of Polk and La Branch streets, featuring a glass façade and a 3,000-square-foot covered outdoor gathering space. Interior improvements include a new 5,000-square-foot premium lounge for season ticket members, a significantly expanded team store, and reconfigured entry points to enhance circulation and visibility into the arena bowl. The project also calls for the full renovation of all existing suites, upgrades to concourses, and the addition of new hospitality spaces such as the 6,000-square-foot Summit Club and upper-level Sky Bar and HOU Market.

The development is being led by Clutch City Sports & Entertainment under the ownership of Tilman J. Fertitta, in partnership with the Harris County–Houston Sports Authority. The effort builds on a series of recent capital improvements at the arena, including a new center-hung scoreboard, seating replacements, and roof upgrades, positioning the venue to remain competitive in attracting major sports and entertainment events.
In addition to visible upgrades, the project includes extensive back-of-house improvements, including enhanced vertical transportation systems, expanded fiber and broadcast capabilities, upgraded Wi-Fi and data infrastructure, and a modernized command center. The renovation aligns with broader downtown investments, including the ongoing expansion of the George R. Brown Convention Center, and is expected to strengthen Houston’s position as a destination for large-scale events and tourism.
