Barnes & Noble is expanding across the country as readers clamor for their next find, rushing to grab the latest literary fiction or the next romance to be adapted for TV. San Antonio is no different, and local bookworms are in luck as the city’s newest Barnes & Noble teases an opening date.

The Huebner Oaks location, situated next door to San Antonio’s newest Trader Joe’s, has been in the works since last year. A filing was made with the state back in December 2025 while renovations kicked off — and that filing set a tentative June 30, 2026, end date for construction. Now, we know a little bit more about the store’s timeline.

In a Thursday, June 25 Instagram post, the location announced it would be opening “soon.”

“We’ll be right there! Just need to put on our face first,” the post read, accompanied by a photo of the blank and nondescript storefront. The caption concluded with the date August 19, 2026, which fits into the fall timeline previously announced back in February.

The new store is part of a revival of the Huebner Oaks shopping center. When Bed, Bath & Beyond shuttered amid the company’s shutdown, Trader Joe’s opened in the space on the right in November 2025. Barnes & Noble will complete the renovation of that old space when it opens, marking another chapter in the shopping center’s comeback.

San Antonio currently has six Barnes & Noble stores, a slow-but-steady expansion since it first landed in the city with two in 1995. Among them are Northwoods off Highway 281 and Loop 1604, San Pedro off Loop 410, Ingram Festival off Loop 410 (one of the two original locations) and the Shops at La Cantera. The outlying suburbs are served by one in Alamo Ranch to the city’s west and another in Selma to the east.

When MySA reached out to Barnes & Noble, the bookseller did confirm the August 19 opening date “bar any unforeseen delays.” The chain’s website also lists “August 2026” as the opening date on the store locator, so it’s safe to say the new location is coming soon.

Find it: 11745 IH-10 W. Suite 750, San Antonio, TX 78230
