Part of Santa Monica Boulevard was closed Thursday due to a water main break near the West Hollywood-Hollywood border that caused minor street flooding.
Water was flowing from the 6-inch pipe, installed in 1921, near Santa Monica Boulevard and Laurel Avenue. Standing water could be seen at nearby intersections, driveways and alongside a street that was reduced to one lane of traffic.
About 10 to 20 customers were affected.
Eastbound Santa Monica Boulevard was closed at Laurel Avenue.
The location is several blocks from a pipe rupture last week on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood that flooded streets. Repair worked continued Thursday at that location.
LA’s highly pressurised water system moves large amount of water around the nearly 500-square-mile city with a population of 3.8 million people. Crews must first turn off the water using valves before beginning repair work to the damaged pipe and, sometimes, the street surface.
The LADWP said the break Thursday morning was not connected to the earlier major rupture in West Hollywood.
There was no estimated timeline for repairs. It was not immediately clear how many customers were impacted.
