Trader Joe’s is expanding with these new Texas stores

Texas is getting spoiled with more grocery options. A California-founded brand plans to open several new supermarkets in the state over the next few years.

The popular company in question? Trader Joe’s, known for its offering of rare, exclusively store-branded food items. Reports submitted through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) show locations heading to Plano, Fort Worth, and other areas. Together, the investment totals more than $4 million. 

One shop, at 5900 Preston Road, is expected to occupy 12,526 square feet near Archgate Park. Officials plan to break ground on Tuesday, December 1, according to the TDLR filing. Crews will focus on interior renovations, and no exterior modifications appear to be underway. Based on the address, it will be part of the newly approved Promontory on Preston retail strip, which has already secured tenants such as Kohl’s and Chase Bank.

A completion date is tentatively scheduled for early June 2027. It will be the second Trader Joe’s in Plano, with the other located two miles south at 2400 Preston Road.

Residents in Fort Worth’s Tarrant County also have something to look forward to. A second 12,500-square-foot market is coming to 9052 North City Drive. Google Maps shows the site as a relatively barren plot of land, though it’s not too far from Presidio Town Crossing, which features Target, Sephora, and At Home. Business folks are pouring $900,000 into the Trader Joe’s, according to the TDLR filing, and it has the same construction timeline as the Plano store.

Nakia Rohde, Trader Joe’s public relations manager, confirmed plans for the Fort Worth and Plano locations but said that grand opening details are not yet available.

Construction crews will begin an interior build-out for a Trader Joe’s at 5130 Bellaire Boulevard in Harris County this December. The completion date is tentatively scheduled for March 2027. The site is replacing a former Randall’s, which closed in 2021, according to HoustonHistoricRetail.com.

Wylie, a northeast suburb of Dallas, will also see some action. A roughly 12,470-square-foot shop is planned at 2710 E Farm to Market 544, inside Suite 100. This will be a ground-up build. Construction begins in March 2027 and should be completed in June of that same year.

Mansfield, also based in North Texas, is opening a Trader Joe’s at 3020 Matlock Road, a state filing shows. It will be near a Chick-fil-A and Sprouts Farmers Market. Renovations at the site will begin in December and should wrap up by March 2027.

There’s been a wave of new retail announcements in the Dallas area in recent months. A new H-E-B was announced for the suburb of Carrollton in early May. A month later, Kroger announced plans for a huge 99,000-square-foot store in Fate. Since then, Sprouts, Walmart, Whole Foods, and others have followed suit by filing building permits.

“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year,” Rohde said.
