Students and their landlords are being handed anti-social behaviour warnings after neighbours complained about loud parties and cannabis use.

Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police handed out four community protection notices (CPN) to people living in a house at Stalbridge Avenue in Mossley Hill.

Residents in the area have complained of feeling “frustrated and isolated”.

The council has warned stronger sanctions could follow, including fines and prosecutions.

Reports of “constant” cannabis misuse and loud parties were made to the council’s private sector housing team, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Officials visited the property on 17 June to issue CPNs instructing the students to cease disruptive behaviour immediately.

A council spokesman said the notices state if people continue to smoke cannabis around the property, they will be hit with a fine or prosecuted.

There is a particular concern about parties to celebrate the end of the academic year, the spokesman said, adding: “The council is working alongside the universities and Merseyside Police to ensure community safety over this period

“We want to empower residents who may feel isolated or intimidated to report issues they see in their community.”
