Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that a ribbon cutting ceremony Lety’s Antojitos took place on Friday, Feb. 21. It is scheduled for Feb. 28.

Lety’s Antojitos, a Hispanic-owned business offering a variety of snacks and event decoration services, will celebrate a grand opening this week, reflecting years of hard work, dedication and support from the family of the store’s owner and namesake.

Lety’s Antojitos will host its ribbon cutting celebration this Friday in the Easton area. The store sells a variety of “antojitos,” or Mexican snacks, and offers event decoration services for weddings, birthdays, quinceañeras and other special events.

Located at 5769 S. Elm Ave., the store is in the heart of the Easton community south of Fresno, located blocks away from nearby Washington Union High School. Lety’s Antojitos will open thanks to the hard work and dedication of Lety Vargas, the store’s namesake, and her husband, Jesús Calderón, according to a news release from the Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation.

With a lifelong dream of owning her own business, Vargas immigrated to the United States when she was 16, hoping to turn her dream into a reality. Her journey, which began by selling makeup products, saw her sales expand to include party decorations, dessert and fruit tables.

Now having channeled her creativity into a storefront, Vargas hopes her space can not only serve as a go-to for party supplies, snacks and antojitos, but also as a space where families can enjoy themselves together and celebrate any occasion.

“This business not only represents a professional success for Vargas but also the well-being of her family,” the news release from the Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation reads. “It is a dream come true, an opportunity that God has opened for her family and that she wants to share with her community.”

Calderón hopes to continue growing, aiming to teach her children the value and importance of perseverance and hard work to serve as an example to those interested in starting their own small business.

Lety’s Antojitos will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located on Elm Avenue between Fantz and Hopkins avenue
