NFL schedule rumors 2025: ‘Every network wants the Lions’

On Tuesday morning, ABC’s “Good Morning America” dropped the latest 2025 NFL schedule news. With the help of announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in studio, they announced that the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles will face off on “Monday Night Football” in Week 10 of the season.

But after that announcement, Buck said something interesting that could give us a hint as to what to expect from the Detroit Lions’ 2025 schedule. Buck was asked by “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts which teams he’s looking forward to seeing this year. Here was his answer, verbatim:

“You’re gonna see the Cowboys, and you’re gonna see the Chiefs, and you’re gonna see the Lions. All of a sudden, every network wants the Lions, which is to their credit. They’ve turned it around. He (Aikman) and I used to do Thanksgiving in Detroit every other year; it’s like, ‘Oh my god, we’re in Detroit.’ Now, it’s like, ‘OH MY GOD! WE’RE IN DETROIT! WE GET TO WATCH THE LIONS!’

“But you’re going to see them. Those are probably the three teams you’ll see maybe a couple of times. We’re hopeful. But, like you said, our appetite is whetted because we have no idea what the schedule is gonna look like. We’ll all find out together.”

There certainly seems to be an implication that the Lions will play on “Monday Night Football” this year, but Buck then walks it back by saying he doesn’t know what the schedule looks like.

Of course, this doesn’t exactly come as a surprise that TV networks are falling over themselves to get a piece of the Lions. Last year, Detroit had some of the most-viewed games of the year.

“I think we’ve become one of the top TV draws,” Lions president Rod Wood said at the owners meetings in April.

“I think last year, other than the Cowboys Thanksgiving game on FOX, we were the No. 2 Fox game, the No. 1 CBS game, the No. 1 ABC game, the No. 1 Amazon game, the No. 1 NBC game. So we were the No. 1-rated TV game on every network except for FOX, we were two. It’s not just good for us; it’s obviously good for the networks. I’m sure, because of that, we’ll have more primetime games. I think we’re going to have a lot of 4:25 games like we did last year.”
