KARLA LUNA
Tax Partner
BPM LLP
Karla Luna, tax partner at BPM LLP, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and mentorship throughout her nearly 25-year career in accounting. Early in her career at Gumbiner Savett, Luna was the only Latina tax practice member among 70 employees, navigating a predominantly white male environment. Rather than being discouraged, this experience fueled her ambition to succeed and create pathways for others. When Gumbiner Savett joined BPM in 2021, she took on the role of regional group leader for the Santa Monica tax team, integrating staff into the larger, regional firm dynamic and BPM’s processes and culture. As the founder and executive sponsor for BPM’s Hispanic & Latinx Community Resource Group, Luna has grown the group to over 70 members, creating a safe space for collaboration and professional development. Her commitment to mentorship is evident in her dedication to helping women and minorities advance in their careers. Understanding the importance of education, Luna has identified an elementary school in an underprivileged area to receive backpacks filled with school supplies, ensuring that Latino and other minority children have the necessary tools to succeed in their studies. Luna is also actively involved in the CalCPA PATH Mentorship Program, guiding college students as they navigate their accounting careers. Her participation in this program reflects her dedication to building a diverse pipeline of talent for the accounting profession. Her efforts also demonstrate a deep understanding of the challenges faced by underserved populations and a commitment to creating positive change through education, access to resources, and mentorship.
