WORCESTER ― The Latin American Festival, a late-summer event in Worcester for more than three decades, will not be held this year.
The event was on tap for Aug. 16.
Centro, the nonprofit community-resources center that organizes the festival, announced the cancelation on Thursday, July 10.
It would have been the 33rd celebration.

“This difficult decision was made after careful consideration of factors beyond our control,” the organization wrote in a letter to the community. “While the festival has been a beloved tradition celebrating Latin American culture, music, and community, the current circumstances do not allow us to host the event in the way our community deserves.”
The festival, typically held on Worcester Common, is a mix of music, dancing and food, all in celebration of the heritage of the region’s Latino population.
Centro did not detail the reasons for calling of this year’s celebration.
“Canceling was not an easy decision, but it is the most responsible cource of action this year,” the letter stated.
