Bristol Motor Speedway transforms for the MLB Speedway Classic

The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds will face off on August 2 in the MLB Speedway Classic, the first MLB game ever to be played in Tennessee.

Provided by Bristol Motor Speedway

MLB and Bristol Motor Speedway have a plan in place if inclement weather affects the MLB Speedway Classic on Aug. 2.

The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds would play on Aug. 3 if the game has to be postponed due to weather. Both the Braves and Reds have a scheduled off day on Aug. 3 to allow for the weather contingency.

The Weather Channel lists less than a 25% chance of rain with the game slated for 7:15 p.m. ET (FOX). The temperature is projected to range between 62 and 79 degrees on Aug. 2.

MLB announced July 28 that more than 85,000 tickets have been sold, which would mark the highest attendance for a single regular-season game in Major League Baseball history. That would eclipse the previous record of 84,587, set on Sept. 12, 1954, when the New York Yankees played Cleveland at Cleveland Stadium.

Rookie Chase Burns, a former Tennessee star from the Nashville area, is the probable pitcher for the Reds.

Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. will miss the game. The outfielder was removed in the sixth inning from the Braves’ game July 29 against the Kansas City Royals with right Achilles tightness. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with right Achilles tendon inflammation.
