Highlights of Hispanic Heritage Month 2025Building community through culture and collaborationAn invitation to the entire Pack

As the fall semester begins, the University of Nevada, Reno is proud to join the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, recognized from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. This annual celebration highlights the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities, while creating opportunities for students, families, faculty, staff and the larger Northern Nevada community to come together to celebrate and learn.

At Nevada, Hispanic Heritage Month is more than just a series of events; it is a chance to celebrate traditions, build connections and promote belonging across campus. Whether through cultural celebrations, academic and mental health conversations, or family-friendly activities, the month serves as an invitation for the entire community to join in the celebrations and engage.

Highlights of Hispanic Heritage Month 2025

The University will host a variety of events designed to reflect the diversity of Hispanic and Latinx experiences.

  • VamosPack Football Tailgate & Game (Sept. 13): Kick off the celebrations with Pack spirit, music and community at the annual VamosPack themed game.
  • Latino Research Center Mural Unveiling (Sept. 15): Celebrate the power of art and storytelling as the Latino Research Center unveils the newest campus mural highlighting Hispanic/Latinx history in the State of Nevada.
  • Paletas on the Lawn (Sept. 15): The Orvis School of Nursing welcomes students with a refreshing treat and an opportunity to connect.
  • Movie Night: No Manches Frida (Sept. 16): Enjoy a movie that brings students together for laughter and cultural connection.
  • Tu Bienvenida (Sept. 17): A welcoming event for students and families, especially first-generation students navigating the transition to college life.
  • Conexiones: Faculty & Student Social (Sept. 18): An opportunity for students to network with Latinx faculty, staff and peers in an informal setting.
  • VamosPack Soccer Game (Oct. 2): Celebrate VamosPack spirit beyond the football field.
  • Hispanic Game Night (Oct. 21): Families and students are invited for an evening of lotería, karaoke and fun.
  • Sugar Skull Workshops (Oct. 28–30): Hands-on activities leading up to Día de los Muertos, where participants learn about the significance of this tradition.
  • Día de los Muertos Celebration (Nov. 2): The month concludes with altar displays and a celebration honoring those who came before us.

Building community through culture and collaboration

This year’s celebration is the result of campus-wide collaboration, with programs and groups working together to create meaningful and engaging opportunities for our Wolf Pack Family and community. The Multicultural Center, Hispanic/Latinx Community Relations, Counseling Services, Orvis School of Nursing, Joe Crowley Student Union, Latino Research Center, Nevada Athletics, Nevada Dining, and many others have partnered to bring forward events that highlight culture, community and connection.

Events such as the monthly Café con Pan, provide space for students to share coffee, pan dulce, and meaningful conversations about mental health and community building. Programs like these reflect the University’s commitment to supporting the holistic well-being of students while celebrating cultural identity.

“The national Hispanic Heritage Month extends beyond events and celebrations. It recognizes the strength of unity and community. It is through our unique differences, such as by celebrating identities, that innovation and growth occur,” said Jafeth Sanchez, Ph.D., executive director of the Latino Research Center.

An invitation to the entire Pack

All events are open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members, regardless of background. Whether someone identifies as Hispanic or Latinx, or simply wants to learn more, all are encouraged to join in and celebrate.

By sharing stories, honoring traditions and celebrating together, the University hopes to strengthen community ties and foster a greater sense of Pack pride.

¡Vamos Pack!
