Glenview CCSD 34 showcased student performances and a community celebration of Hispanic and Latin American cultures during its board meeting.

Dr. Deli introduced special guests and said the Dec. 5 “celebracion de cultura” brought more than 240 staff members and families together. Hispanic community coordinator Flori Rivera Chapa told the board the event included eight performances — six student performances, one high-school and one professional act — and that PTA support and donations from local restaurants helped make the evening successful.

A student performer, who said she was excited to present a Colombian dance, described the experience as meaningful and a chance to represent her culture. The coordinator also thanked community partners, listing donations from Greenwood Grill, Churro Parlor, Rio Bamba, Quebola Cuban Cafe and Mi Tierrita Columbiana Cafe, and noted more than two dozen families donated food items.

District leaders also reported community programs: a winter-wear pickup event in early November supported close to 300 students through donated coats, and the district’s holiday-helper program shifted from physical gifts to gift cards to ensure equitable distribution; the district and PTA partners raised more than $30,000 to help students in need.

Board members and administrators thanked staff and volunteers and posed for a photo with student performers at the meeting.

“We were able to support close to 300 students in our district,” Dr. Deli said, adding thanks to PTA partners and volunteers for organizing the distributions.
