The Faribault Falcons traveled to Rochester Mayo High School Saturday to play the Big Nine Conference leading Spartans.
Ryan Kreager, 6’10, senior for the Falcons scored his 1,000th career varsity point with around four minutes to go in the half.
The Falcons led much of the half, but saw Mayo take the lead with 6:29 to go and would never get it back. The score was 36-33 at the half.
There was a bizarre score for Faribault when Wolf got a layup following an unintentional header pass from Kreager.
The Falcons finished the game with 8 three point baskets including 3 from Liam Redman, senior, and two by senior Cullen Cox who also had an impressive assist in the first half.
Rochester Mayo outscored Faribault 41-25 in the second half to accomplish the 77-58 win.
Elliott Myszkowki, 6’0 junior, led the way with 18 points, (12 points in the paint and two threes), Isaac Peterson, 6’6 senior, had 17 points, and Logan Shimek, 6’6 senior, finished with 12 points.
Kreager and Wolff led the Falcons with 17 points each, Liam Redman had 9, Brandon Petricka tallied 9, and Cullen Cox finished with 6 points.
The Falcons were woeful again at the charity stripe going 4 of 10 while Mayo was 6 of 8 in the free throw department/
The statistic of the game however were the points in the paint. The Spartans scored 22 points in lane in the first half. added 20 more in the second half for 42 total.
Faribault had 18 first half paint points and 8 in the second half for 26 total.
Rochester Mayo is now 8-1 in the league, 11-3 overall and goes to Owatonna Tuesday. The Huskies defeated Mankato West in Mankato 65-56 Saturday afternoon and the Northfield Raiders downed Rochester John Marshall in Med City 70-59 to keep in the hunt for the conference crown.
Elsewhere in the Big Nine Austin 95, Red Wing 69. Winona 58, Rochester Century 53, and Mankato East over Marshall in non-conference action 71-61.
