Amazon is expecting to hire hundreds of hourly employees across Arizona in the upcoming months.

The company is ramping up its workforce ahead of the busy summer sales season, according to Amazon spokesperson Zoe Richmond. Perks include a starting wage of $22 per hour, health care benefits and free skills training programs.

“We just have a lot of different jobs — whether someone needs something that’s incredibly flexible, all the way up to full-time opportunities,” Richmond said.

Amazon recently opened three large facilities in the West Valley, which together could employ up to 3,600 people, she added. During peak hiring periods, Amazon has staffed up to 9,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal roles across the state.

Here’s what job seekers in Arizona need to know about Amazon and the jobs available.

What is Amazon?

Amazon is the world’s largest online retailer and marketplace, with a vast selection of products.

The company also offers additional services, like its Prime membership program, which includes benefits like free shipping on eligible items and access to streaming content on Prime Video.

While a full list of openings hasn’t been released, Richmond said the company is primarily hiring hourly employees to support order fulfillment. Tasks may include organizing and sorting packages and using robotics to help box items.

How much does Amazon pay workers?

The starting wage is around $22 per hour. Additional benefits include health care coverage and training for more technical roles, like robotics maintenance.

The company also offers a program to fund full college tuition called Career Choice. Employees are eligible to sign up after 90 days of employment. Through Career Choice, employees can pursue a Bachelor’s degree, industry certifications leading to in-demand jobs, or build skills through English language proficiency and high school completion programs.

Benefits for full-time, regular employees include:

  • Career advancement opportunities and access to earned pay
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance starting on day one
  • A 401(k) with a 50% company match
  • Up to 20 weeks of paid leave, including six weeks of parental leave
  • Free mental health support through Amazon’s Resources for Living program, available to employees and their households

Amazon also offers ESL shifts, designed for employees who are not fluent in English. During these shifts, most team members — including managers, HR staff, and safety personnel — are Spanish speakers.
