Atlanta — Apr 21, 2026

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), will launch the first cohort of its Building Georgia workforce program on May 7, connecting metro Atlanta residents with high-demand careers in construction and transportation.

The program offers free, hands-on training and industry-recognized certifications to prepare participants for entry-level roles in the infrastructure and skilled trades sectors, which are essential to supporting Georgia’s continued growth. The program also introduces participants to a variety of career pathways within the construction and transportation industries. Career pathways include construction and skilled trades roles, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) opportunities, and entry-level transportation positions.

National research from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce estimates that large-scale federal infrastructure investments could support up to 15 million jobs over the next decade. In Georgia, an estimated 136,000 workers will be needed to complete infrastructure projects, highlighting significant demand in construction and transportation careers.

“Building Georgia reflects ARC’s commitment to connecting people to opportunity and to strengthening the systems that support our region’s growth,” said Anna Roach, CEO and Executive Director of the Atlanta Regional Commission. “By aligning workforce development with infrastructure investment, we are not only preparing residents for in-demand careers but also building a stronger, more resilient regional economy.”

Through the TCSG partnership, classes will be held at Atlanta Technical College and Gwinnett Technical College, and participants will complete a six to eight-week training program focused on technical and employability skills. The first cohort will accept 15 to 20 participants at each location. No prior experience is required.

Participants will earn certifications and training in a range of foundational and in-demand skills. This includes NCCER Certification and Basic Safety training, OSHA 10 Certification, and CPR and Flagger Certification. In addition to these credentials, participants will gain practical knowledge in construction math, tools, and technical skills, along with exposure to welding and heavy equipment fundamentals.

With limited spots available, ARC is currently recruiting individuals 18 and older interested in launching careers in these high-growth industries.

Interested individuals can complete a short interest form to determine eligibility and begin the enrollment process. For more information or to apply, visit: buildingga.org
