As the World Comes to Miami-Dade, Doral Leads the Way

As Mayor of Doral, I often say that our city is “Where the World Meets.” But this year, that phrase is no longer just a slogan, it is a reality unfolding before our eyes across all of Miami-Dade County.

From international summits and trade conferences to global sporting events, cultural showcases, diplomatic gatherings, and business forums, Miami-Dade has become one of the most important meeting points in the world. The eyes of global leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, and innovators are fixed on our community. And increasingly, many of those conversations are happening right here in Doral. There is a reason for that.

Doral sits at the crossroads of the Americas. We are minutes from one of the busiest international airports in the world, surrounded by one of the most important logistics and trade corridors in the country, and home to a business community that understands international commerce better than almost anywhere else in the United States. But what excites me most is not simply the attention we are receiving it is the opportunity that comes with it.

Every major event hosted in our region creates a ripple effect. Hotels fill up. Restaurants thrive. Small businesses gain customers. International companies begin exploring expansion opportunities. Investors begin looking at Miami-Dade differently. And perhaps most importantly, our young people begin to see that they do not have to leave South Florida to build world-class careers.

For years, many families believed high-paying industries and global opportunities only existed in places like New York, Washington, Silicon Valley, or overseas. Today, Miami-Dade is proving otherwise. We are seeing growth in aviation, logistics, technology, finance, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, healthcare innovation, hospitality, and international trade. These industries are not just creating jobs they are creating careers that can change the trajectory of entire families.

That matters deeply to me as Mayor because I constantly think about what kind of future we are building for the next generation. When students in Doral and throughout Miami-Dade see international leaders meeting in their own backyard, when they hear multiple languages spoken in business meetings, when they watch global companies establish headquarters here, it changes their mindset. It expands what they believe is possible for themselves.

And while global attention is exciting, it also comes with responsibility.

Growth without planning can strain infrastructure, increase traffic congestion, and drive up the cost of living for working families. Those are real concerns that residents feel every single day. As local leaders, we cannot simply celebrate growth we have to manage it responsibly.

That means continuing to invest in public safety, transportation improvements, parks, resilient infrastructure, workforce development, and smart economic planning. It means ensuring our residents are not left behind as Miami-Dade evolves onto the world stage.

In Doral, we have worked hard to position ourselves not only as a destination for business, but as a city where families can thrive. We have invested in quality-of-life projects, public safety, recreation, and economic development because we understand that global success means very little if residents do not feel the benefits locally.

The reality is this: Miami-Dade is no longer simply competing with neighboring counties. We are competing globally. And Doral is helping lead that conversation.

This is just the beginning.

As our community continues to grow and evolve, our focus remains clear addressing the issues that matter most to our residents: infrastructure and mobility, affordability, economic opportunity, public safety, and the long-term future of our region.

Because if the world is coming to Miami-Dade, then we must ensure we are ready not just to welcome it, but to lead it. And in Doral, we intend to do exactly that.
