Team Overview: Creative and Content is part of the marketing department, leading brand identity, visual design and art direction for the Los Angeles Lakers and South Bay Lakers. The team is responsible for generating creative ideas and forming campaign concepts to achieve long-term and short-term business objectives, guided by the broader marketing team. The creative and content team designs and delivers creative stories and assets to serve a variety of organization needs prioritizing fan engagement, broadcast support, corporate partnerships and season ticket members. This team is responsible for producing creative and editorial content daily during the season to tell the Lakers story. Creative and Content also serves the broader business, supporting basketball operations, community programs, DEIB initiatives, corporate programs and internal employee programming.

Position Summary: The Associate Video Editor will play an integral role in the editing and post-production of compelling video content, collaborating closely with senior members of the video team to deliver high-quality, engaging stories. This position requires a strong grasp of narrative structure, pacing, and visual storytelling—understanding how to craft emotion, rhythm, and clarity through editing, while working within the constraints and scrutiny of a corporate environment and highly public-facing brand.

Key responsibilities include assembling and organizing raw footage, executing precise edits (e.g., trimming, color correction, audio balancing, motion graphics integration), and ensuring seamless transitions that enhance the story’s emotional and narrative arc.  A passion for storytelling is essential. The right candidate understands editing as a craft that transforms footage into feeling. They should also be comfortable stepping behind the camera when needed, bringing a well-rounded understanding of how production decisions impact post-production outcomes.

Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):

  • Complete post-production tasks including video editing, color grading, audio editing and mixing
  • Collaborate with the Integrated Marketing team and Creative team to develop platform-specific social media and digital videos from conception to completion
  • Contribute and collaborate in the creation of original content
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally within the organization — including but not limited to Corporate Partnerships, Basketball Operations, Game Entertainment, Ticketing, Marketing, and Community Relations
  • Ability to work seamlessly across multiple team requests (Los Angeles Lakers, South Bay Lakers, and Laker Girls)
  • Edit video ranging from short-form social pieces to long-form YouTube across a range of formats and scale, optimizing each edit for the final channel
  • Collaborate on optimizing a post-production/archival workflow
  • Formulate content ideas that fit into larger campaigns and day-to-day social operations
Previous Experience: A minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a video editor within a collaborative environment

Technology Capabilities:

  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite; specifically Premiere, After Effects and Media Encoder
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Knowledge Skills, Abilities:

  • Clear editorial judgement and strong visual aesthetics
  • Deep understanding of visual storytelling, with an ability to adapt to a variety of visual styles
  • Strong understanding of brand campaigns, art direction and social/digital media ecosystems
  • Strong attention to detail and project organization
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback and experiment
  • Ability to work fast, without sacrificing quality, for quick turnaround projects
  • Can work under pressure and within tight deadlines on multiple concurrent projects while being flexible to changing conditions
  • Understanding of corporate and legal restrictions with ability to problem solve and still deliver premium, compelling content
  • Be able to work on a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Willingness to learn brand identity and apply learnings to content creation
  • Ability to tell compelling stories with little or no copy
  • Maintain and organize backups (structured archival system) of all current and ongoing projects
  • Must be knowledgeable on the game of basketball, the NBA, and The Lakers
  • Act as an ambassador of The Lakers brand standards in all aspects of creative work
  • Must provide a current reel or portfolio link showcasing previous video editing work

Location: El Segundo (office M-F), downtown Crypto.com Arena (for home games)
Travel: Up to 10% of time
Hours: This position requires constant attention due to the continuous nature of the news cycle. Regular office hours (9am-5:30pm M-F), plus overtime is mandatory; must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays to complete deadlines as needed
The pay range for this role is $70,000 to $80,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications.
